Breeding of rabbits, just as with the breeding of other animals, requires commitment, patience, time and a number of skills and knowledge. If you have decided to develop a breed, you should follow a number of rules.
Any breed implies the presence of some distinctive feature. That may be the color or the density of the coat, size, the shape of the tail or the position of the ears. By gathering genetic materials, one can receive species with traits that are peculiar to this particular group.
Isolation is the decisive factor to preclude occasional mating with undesired species. Only those animals that exhibit needed characteristics should be brought together for mating. Nowadays, there are special laboratories, where, by way of artificial breeding and new genetic technology, new breeds of rabbits and other animals are produced.
Rabbits Pictures - What's a rabbitry?
Many families, who have long been keeping certain breeds of rabbits, finally acquire the status of a rabbitry and are registered in American Rabbit Breeder Association. The head of a family is usually more experienced, and he or she is supposed to teach his or her children the science of rabbit keeping, in order to pass the occupation on to future generations.
Some rabbitries join in various rabbit breeder clubs and cooperate in maintaining existing breeds. These organizations provide forums for those who are eager to purchase, caress and maybe set up their own rabbitries and to later join in or cooperate with these organizations.
Different families keep different breeds of rabbits but, if you hypothetically run through a common breed list, you will definitely come across rabbit names, such as Netherland Dwarf, English and Holland Lop, Lionhead, Angora rabbit, Mini Rex, Dutch rabbit, and so forth. These appear to be the most admired breeds of rabbits.
